Become a Music Reading Expert!
There are some great music reading apps available for Android and iOS. They are inexpensive and the students really enjoy them. Check out Flashnote Derby and Staff Wars Live for a fun way to improve note reading! You can find them on the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store.
Sight Reading Factory is a great tool for practicing music reading and it is FREE for our fifth graders if you use the ID's below. It will create endless short musical examples for students to read. I will introduce this tool in class. Check it out by clicking this link: Sight Reading Factory.

Where is Do???
"Do" is the note that sounds like home. It is the first note of a major scale. In class we have learned how to find Do, Sol, and Fa in two major keys - Concert Bb and Concert D. So how do you find these notes? First you have to translate "Concert Pitch" to your instrument's "Playing Pitch." Here is a quick review of how you do this:
OK...Now that you have found your playing pitch, call that DO. To find SOL count up to the fifth note in the musical alphabet. To find FA, back up one letter below SOL! Here is an example:

But how do I know if the note is flat, sharp or natural? That is a bit more complicated. You can always ask me!
